Supporting Single Mothers and Widows Project

Overview

The Supporting Single Mothers and Widows Project is one of FECY Foundation’s most compassionate interventions — created to uplift women who carry the weight of entire households on their shoulders. Single mothers and widows often face overwhelming financial, emotional, and social challenges. Many struggle to feed their children, pay rent, or sustain small businesses after the loss of a spouse or the absence of a partner.

FECY Foundation understands that these women are not just caregivers — they are providers, protectors, and pillars of resilience. Through this project, the foundation offers relief materials, food items, small grants, and emotional support to restore dignity, stability, and hope to their families.

Purpose

The Supporting Single Mothers and Widows Project was designed to:

  • Provide essential support to women who shoulder family responsibilities alone.
  • Reduce the burden of poverty on households led by widows and single mothers.
  • Offer emotional encouragement and community solidarity to women experiencing hardship or loss.
  • Strengthen long-term stability by supporting small businesses and livelihood efforts.

This project reflects FECY’s belief that no woman should stand alone in times of hardship — support should meet her where she is.

What We Do

  1. Identify Widows and Single Mothers in Need
FECY partners with community leaders, welfare officers, and volunteers to identify women who are struggling due to financial hardship, bereavement, or lack of support.
  2. Distribute Food and Relief Materials
The foundation provides essential items such as rice, beans, oil, hygiene products, clothing, and children’s supplies. These relieve immediate pressure on families and ensure basic needs are met.
  3. Provide Small Grants and Business Support
When needed, FECY assists with small business capital, trade tools, or income-generating materials to help women rebuild financially.
  4. Offer Emotional Support and Community Connection
Volunteers spend time listening, praying, encouraging, and sharing hope with these women, reinforcing that they are not forgotten.
  5. Create a Culture of Care and Dignity
Each outreach is conducted with sensitivity and respect, acknowledging the strength and courage these women demonstrate every day.

Impact

The Supporting Single Mothers and Widows Project has restored stability and hope in many homes:

✅ Provided food, relief materials, and welfare support to women-led households.
✅ Empowered widows and single mothers to restart or strengthen small businesses.
✅ Renewed emotional strength, dignity, and confidence during seasons of hardship.

One widow expressed,

"I felt alone after losing my husband, but FECY reminded me that I still have a family that cares."

Sustainability

The project is sustained through:

  • Donations of food items, clothing, and financial support from individuals and partners.
  • Community referrals that help identify women with urgent needs.
  • Volunteers who provide encouragement, follow-up visits, and continual support.
  • Partnerships with women-focused organizations and local groups.

FECY encourages donors to sponsor “Widow & Single Mother Support Packs,” which combine welfare items with livelihood assistance.

Looking Ahead

FECY Foundation plans to expand the Supporting Single Mothers and Widows Project by:

  • Reaching more communities and rural areas where widows face deep cultural and economic challenges.
  • Establishing emotional support circles where women can share experiences and receive encouragement.
  • Creating a Women Resilience Fund to provide steady business capital for women-led households.
  • Partnering with legal and social support organizations to assist widows facing rights violations or inheritance challenges.

Through this initiative, FECY continues to stand beside the women who stand for their families — proving that with compassion, support, and community, every woman can rise again.
