Recreational Materials for Hospitalized Children Initiative

Overview

The Recreational Materials for Hospitalized Children Initiative is one of FECY Foundation’s most tender healthcare projects — created to bring joy, color, and comfort to children undergoing medical treatment. Hospitals can be intimidating for young patients. Between pain, isolation, and the fear of medical procedures, many children lose their sense of excitement and play. FECY Foundation understands that while medicine treats the body, play heals the heart.

Through this initiative, the foundation donates recreational and educational materials such as toys, books, coloring kits, games, and art supplies to pediatric wards. These materials help children stay emotionally strong and mentally engaged as they recover — turning hospital rooms into small spaces of hope and laughter.

Purpose

The Recreational Materials for Hospitalized Children Initiative was designed to:

  • Promote emotional wellbeing and mental strength among hospitalized children.
  • Use play, art, and storytelling as tools for healing and recovery.
  • Provide comfort, hope, and joy to children facing long hospital stays.
  • Support caregivers and hospital staff by improving the mood and resilience of young patients.

This project reflects FECY’s deep belief that every child deserves to smile, even while healing.

What We Do

  1. Identify Pediatric Wards and Hospitals
FECY partners with hospitals to identify children’s wards where recreational materials are most needed.
  2. Donate Educational and Play Materials
The foundation provides items such as storybooks, puzzles, crayons, drawing sheets, toys, and games — all chosen to be safe, clean, and age-appropriate.
  3. Organize Fun Visits and Interactive Sessions
Volunteers visit the children to read stories, play simple games, and share laughter — helping the children forget their pain, even if only for a moment.
  4. Encourage Creativity and Learning
Children are encouraged to express themselves through drawing, coloring, or storytelling — boosting confidence and mental health during recovery.

Impact

The Recreational Materials for Hospitalized Children Initiative has created countless moments of happiness and relief for children and families.

  • Brightened the hospital experience for young patients and reduced anxiety during recovery.
  • Supported emotional healing and positive engagement among hospitalized children.
  • Strengthened relationships between FECY, hospitals, and local communities.

One nurse shared,

“The moment those toys arrived, the ward changed — the children started smiling again.”

Sustainability

The project is sustained through:

  • Donations of toys, books, and materials from members, volunteers, and partners.
  • Regular visits and restocking of hospital play areas and pediatric libraries.
  • Partnerships with children’s hospitals, NGOs, and schools to coordinate supply drives.

FECY also encourages donors to sponsor “Play Packs” — individual kits given directly to children to take home after recovery.

Looking Ahead

FECY Foundation plans to expand this initiative into a nationwide hospital recreation program, reaching more children’s wards and building small play corners in hospitals. Future plans include:

  • Partnering with toy companies, publishers, and art supply brands to support donations.
  • Introducing “Art for Healing” workshops, where volunteers guide children through simple creative activities.
  • Establishing mobile play units that can visit different hospitals throughout the year.

Through this initiative, FECY Foundation continues to bring light into dark rooms — proving that even in pain, joy can be found, and smiles can be restored.

“Healing begins with hope, and sometimes hope begins with a simple toy in a child’s hand.”
