Clean Water Project

Overview

The Clean Water Project is one of FECY Foundation’s most impactful community development interventions — created to address the daily struggles faced by communities without access to safe drinking water. In many rural and peri-urban areas, families walk long distances to fetch water, rely on contaminated streams, or struggle with frequent water shortages that affect sanitation, health, and livelihood.

FECY Foundation believes that clean water is a basic human right, not a privilege. Through this project, the foundation provides access to safe, clean, and reliable water sources by installing boreholes, repairing damaged water points, and supplying community tanks to areas with critical shortages. This initiative restores dignity, reduces disease, and improves the quality of life for entire communities.

Purpose

The Clean Water Project was designed to:

  • Eliminate water scarcity in communities with limited or no access to safe water.
  • Reduce waterborne diseases caused by contaminated or stagnant water.
  • Support education and economic activities by reducing the time spent fetching water.
  • Promote hygiene, sanitation, and overall community wellbeing.

This project reflects FECY Foundation’s belief that every community deserves the gift of safe, accessible water.

What We Do

  1. Identify Water-Stressed Communities: FECY collaborates with local leaders, community associations, and volunteers to pinpoint areas where water scarcity is most severe.
  2. Install Boreholes and Water Systems: The foundation funds or co-funds the construction of boreholes, hand pumps, and community water points that provide long-term access to clean water.
  3. Repair Damaged Water Facilities: Where infrastructure already exists, FECY repairs broken boreholes, pumps, and taps to restore functionality.
  4. Provide Water Storage and Emergency Relief: In crisis situations, the foundation supplies tanks, water drums, and emergency water relief to reduce suffering.
  5. Promote Hygiene Education
Alongside water provision, FECY teaches families about hygiene, sanitation, and water safety practices.

Impact

The Clean Water Project has transformed daily life in communities served:

✅ Reduced long treks for water, especially for women and children.
✅ Improved health outcomes by cutting down waterborne diseases.
✅ Restored dignity and reduced stress for households struggling with water scarcity.
✅ Strengthened community resilience and sanitation practices.

Sustainability

The project is sustained through:

  • Community ownership and maintenance training.
  • Partnerships with local engineers, water technicians, and NGOs.
  • Donations from individuals, corporate bodies, and partners.
  • Regular assessment and follow-up on installed water systems.

FECY also encourages donors to sponsor “Clean Water Units” — a borehole, repaired pump, or water tank dedicated to a specific community.

Looking Ahead

FECY Foundation plans to expand clean water access by:

  • Building more boreholes in underserved rural communities.
  • Installing solar-powered water systems for sustainability.
  • Creating community water committees to ensure long-term maintenance.
  • Partnering with environmental and water-focused organizations for broader reach.
